Alright yall, time to set this into motion.

With the lack of events that have been around for emcees as a whole, I apologize. However, if it's any consolation, I've been preparing a bombshell of an idea to make up for things. This will most likely be our project for this spring, especially if I can get a couple of heads along for the ride.

THE UC HIP-HOP 2006 COMPILATION. A nice ring to it, no? Yeah, I know we already put out a mixtape and what not...but this is a new track effort. Over break, and hopefully as a result of this post (if noticed), I will be talking to the circle of beatsmiths/producers that reside as friends and accomplices of ours to donate their time and craft for this monumental musical effort.

In other words, FIRST, WE NEED BEATS! So, if you produce, drum, or play live instruments, your efforts would be welcome, applauded, and appreciated, as we're trying to get this thing off the ground. Instrumental hip-hop or emcee-beat contributions are all accepted. Structure isn't necessarily a concern right now, as we're just trying to move this forward an inch at a time.

Emcees, as a building exercise, as well as to build community, we should get things back together for quad cyphers. I know it's the middle of winter, so I propose an inside location...we were talking about having them in the inner hallways of the Union, so that might be the place to get it started. I'll also be inviting people onto Beats and Rhymes on Fridays to spark freestyle sessions (profanity free, of course...gotta keep my job). Overall, I'm really just looking to rebuild what has slowly been breaking down due to the monster that this semester was. With regards to this compilation, I've heard songs by all of you before...and those of you I haven't heard from: this is your chance. That first track is always a gateway...my first UC Hip-Hop compilation track got me my first show 2 months later. The only real continuity in terms of theme on tracks that I would hope to happen would be an "all-star" joint at the end...most likely on a cypher kick, i.e., freestyled.

If the two of these elements come together, then we can officially get started. In the meantime, I'll be checking this post on the daily over break, and contacting people for beats, recording space (Oleg, A-Rize, etc.), and for organizational help.

Come hell or high water, this will work out. I swear it. It's time to resurrect this community as Hip-Hop Awareness Week approaches. With your help I can make this work. Bomb this post with good ideas, and hit me up if necessary.

Let's build.

It's been out, Alister and I mixed it and finished it before the b-boy battle.  Unfortunately we haven't been promoting it at all. Vote to put it on the site?

my personal thoughts:  plan everything necessary in order to release the compilation on CD at the beginning of next semester, hitting everybody on the streets with burned CDs of it as soon as they get back from the break (blindsight em with the brand new shit as soon as they get one foot back in the door to start school which could set the tone for the semester for HHC on the publicity tip, then build on that with the other activities we do throughout the semester all the way up into the hip-hop awareness week at the end - do the shit like a boxing match: start with a punch, end with a flurry - ) - putting it on the site will be good and we can do it in addition to burning it to CD, but only people in or around HHC's regular activities use the site, and the music when posted to this site would be more or less just us listening to our own stuff.  it was my impression that the compilation was made for everyone to hear (chambana, chicago, missouri, michigan, indiana, ohio, etc., not to mention HHC chapters across the united states who would be into knowing what we're doing at our chapter), and especially made for people unaware of/not involved with HHC who have no idea what kind of stuff/music we all do, but listen to rap music on the regular.

but that's all just my own 2 cents; it really matters what everybody as a group would like to do with it.

AMS, are you talking about getting this stuff going over break or when we get back?

Hey are you gonna be around town?  I still got your instrumentals; I hit you up on the email last week but haven't heard back

once you get the beats, how are you gonna decide what people get on what songs?

Alright...here are some answers:

 - As for beats, I'm gonna try to get a catalog of about 20 (hopefully). I'll post them on my netfiles, and post links to the site as to the specific track links. I think the best policy might be that if 2 or more people want the same beat, then a collaboration track would be best. Otherwise, it's first written, first served. I'll be looking to have regular meetings as this thing is put together, to mark progress.

 - Those of you who have beats, or want to donate them, I would suggest putting links to them in this topic on the forum, so as to keep things organized. I'll be in touch with Spinnerty, Bozak, and Limbs hopefully very soon, but I know there are other beatsmiths. If so, please make your talented selves known, and donate!

Alright, so...for those of yall still keeping up, here's an update on the project.

 - Spinnerty's beats are officially dedicated...and in the works. I had a chance to politic with him, and found out that he'll be donating 4, and he said that 2 were just about done.

 - Limbs is donating 14. FOURTEEN. This covers the spread pretty damn well, and he will be arranging them soon.

Beatsmiths, MCs, DJs...start lighting this topic on fire with replies. This is gonna take off soon, yall...we still need your help and contributions.

don't know how this thread slipped past me.  what about all the beats that were submitted in last years beat pool?  I'm down to submit; Mos you should be ashamed you didn't contact me! :(

Also how will we prevent the beat pool problem that happened last year?  Basically lots of beats but not enough pressure to finish.  Maybe Mos and Oleg could try and match beatmakers to lyricists to help move things along...

Alright yall, here's the deal.

My apologies for being out of contact, and for the lack of updates. A close family member died at the end of break, and the processes behind last arrangements kept me from a computer for a while. But, now that things are settled...

 - Spinnerty's first two beats have been recieved, and have a distinctivly dope vibe to them. I'm arranging for some public space to put them up in the coming days, most likely on my netfiles in a specific directory..stay tuned to this thread for a link.

 - Limbs, if you catch this, hit me up on the status of your beats.

 - Emcees and Producers..come on, now. I've heard from Sasha and Harsh, and I know there are tons more of you out there. BOMB THIS THREAD!!

 - Producers, if you have beats for this project, make it known on this thread as well. We can always use more for the pool of instrumentals.

Stay tuned.
